Dental Crowns

 

A dental crown will look just like a natural tooth which it was replacing, and in most cases, it will be better in aesthetics. We would prepare the tooth in surgery followed by taking impressions/moulds. These are taken to the laboratory from which our technician will make the crowns.

 

You are discharged on that day with a provisional crown/restoration.  When you come back to the practice to have it fitted, the provisional is removed tooth is cleaned, the crown is tried in to ensure optimal fit aesthetics and occlusion. It is then bonded in place.

 

We quite often place a crown on a tooth after we carry out a root canal treatment as it reinforces and protects the tooth, making it less likely to crack, and enhancing its prognosis.

 

If you’ve never seen a crown, it is basically a porcelain tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and to improve its appearance.

 

A crown can restore a broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down. It can also hold together parts of a cracked tooth, it may not protect that tooth forever, but it may extend the life of the tooth by many years.

We will also use a crown in instances where a large molar filling is failing as it not only protects the tooth but also gives a great aesthetic result.
