Dental Implants

A dental implant is the best way to replace a tooth without relying on adjacent teeth. Traditionally, if you had a missing tooth your dentist would shaved around the tooth in front and behind before attaching a dental bridge. This meant that to replace one tooth, you involved two other teeth unnecessarily.

A dental implant is made of pure titanium and inserted into the bone and once integrated, which normally takes 10- 12 weeks, can support a dental crown.

There are many advantages and benefits to having a dental implant placed including;

  • Improved appearance by not having an unsightly gap in your teeth

  • Balanced bite and stabilised dentition allowing to use both sides of your month for eating

  • They are a fixed solution unlike dentures which are removable and need to be taken out at night in order to allow the soft tissue and teeth to rest and recover

  • Eating function will return to normal once all healed

  • Missing teeth can affect speech, dental implants will rectify that

  • You will feel more confident having a fixed natural-looking replacement tooth than a removable one

At Wimpole Street Dental Care, we will carry out a complete assessment of your mouth to assess your suitability for a dental implant. Even if you have been told in the past that you may not be a suitable candidate we would recommend speaking to us as this is not always the case, also different shaped implants are suitable for different cases and parts of the mouth,  and  in very difficult cases grafting may result in you being able to have implant treatment, so it is well worth having a consultation with us.

Throughout this page we have focused on replacing a single tooth, however, we can place multiple implants in a mouth. Even if somebody has an entire lower or upper arch of teeth missing we can place a number of implants to support a bridge of teeth.

We can either replace a tooth which has been missing for some time, or we can commence the treatment at the point in time where a tooth needs extracting.

If you would like to speak to us about the benefits of having an implant placed by a dental team with vast experience and expertise, then call us on 020 7935 3323 to book a consultation.
