Dental Veneers

 

Dental veneers have many uses and at Wimpole Street Dental Care we can offer them to treat any of the following;

• Discoloured or damaged fillings ​

 

Many people don’t realise that there are two very different types of dental veneers.

 

Direct veneers

Direct veneers (which can also be called composite veneers or direct composite bonding) are made of composite, which is the same tooth coloured material we use to make ‘white’ fillings. They are a much more conservative and minimally invasive option than porcelain veneers. We basically layer and mould the material to create a beautiful and natural looking tooth.

 

Indirect veneers

Indirect veneers are often referred to as ceramic or porcelain veneers. After we have taken moulds of your teeth following some preparation, the veneers are made in a dental laboratory and then fitted in the practice. They are made, as the name would suggest, from porcelain and we often describe them as the tooth equivalent of a false fingernail, as they are placed with adhesive over the front of the tooth to make a dramatic difference. The main advantage of porcelain veneers is that they have a glazed surface which won’t stain, highly aesthetic and in most cases reinforce the natural tooth.

 

At Wimpole Street Dental Care, we will always try to restore your tooth in the most minimally invasive way, which is why direct veneers are our preferred option, where suitable. Only in the instances where this is not suitable clinically or the use of direct porcelain will not provide the desired aesthetic outcome, will we suggest indirect veneers.
