Practice open after COVID-19 lockdown

I hope this finds you well. I have had 11 weeks at home with my family and whilst having a rather enjoyable rest from the chaotic routines our family had adopted, I continued to worry about my patients. Thankfully the lockdown period went with minimal dental issues from you all. It was a relief as I was extremely worried about sending you to one of the remote dental centres for emergency care. I had feelings of relief mixed with anxiety when we were informed that dental practices could open with minimal notice.

You will be relieved to hear that over those weeks whilst enjoying the daily long walks and bike rides with my boys despite their moaning and complaints, and baking endless number of cakes, I managed to source and put away the required PPE (personal protective equipment) for the eventual restart. At that stage we had no idea what was actually needed, so I was getting guidance from my husband working in ITU with COVID patients as well as from surgical colleagues in Italy. I allocated time attending virtual meetings and webinars worldwide to create practice guidelines, ensuring the absolute safety of my patients, my staff and myself. I had mixed emotions going into the practice in preparation for re-opening, however the first day back proved how much I had missed my job and doing what I truly enjoy.

Although we will have limited services available with fewer appointments and limited days to start with, we plan to gradually increase these to enable us to see all our precious patients as soon as possible. Christine has taken on the task of triaging our patients prior to their appointments and will carry out further checklists on your arrival to the surgery before we see you for your treatment.

We are so happy to be back at 9 Upper Wimpole Street after such a long break and look forward to seeing each and everyone of you.
